Milford Graves-- percussionist, acupuncturist, herbalist, martial artist, programmer, professor and pioneer of improvised music-- left this world on February 12, 2021. Join me in this celebration of his music and his life in a Deep Focus from July of 2019 with the brilliant Pheeroan Aklaff. Splendor!
As a special bonus, if I get just one request, I will also post the interview that Andy Rotman and I did with Milford in July of 1987(!).

2013.05.06 Brian Charette on Chick Corea, Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes 3 of 3
Saturday Feb 20, 2021
Saturday Feb 20, 2021
I always liked Chick Corea's music but, not being a musician, I never knew *why* I liked it. That is to say that I never really understood what it was that was so distinctive about what he was doing, musically speaking. Brian Charette revealed Chick's innovations and their antecedents in the music going back generations. This is a true master class on how a virtuoso such as Chick expands the vocabulary of the music. And it only added to my enjoyment of the rare recordings from the WKCR archives that we listened to with our audience.
Please join us in (re)discovering these loving insights into Chick Corea's utterly unique approach to the music.
